Who is TLJ?
Tiffany L. Jones is an artist, educator, designer, activist, healer and ordained officiant specializing in LGBTQ weddings. She is Southern feed and New York City breed. She loves colors, beads, laughter, fabric, paint, oddities, fashion, sharing, cooking, creating, dancing and learning. She loves music. Any kind of music. She is known for having many hairstyles and a collection of eyewear. She adores her family.
She is a storyteller, a skill learned from her parents. She is committed to unearthing the intersections of our stories to provide opportunities for growth and healing. She believes everyone has a story to tell and to learn from.
She studied graphic design and received a BA in Graphic Communications. While in college she was an apprentice/assistant to doll and textile artist Adrienne McDonald, in which she learned the art of cloth doll making and began Love, Mama dolls in 2001. With her passion for teaching, learning, social justice, collaboration, youth and art-making Tiffany pursued a Master’s degree in Art Education from New York University. She graduated in 2010.
She is a full-time tenured Art Educator in the New York City Public School system. During her career as an art educator, she has created curriculum and experiences rooted in a critical pedagogy of love, liberation, healing and transformative justice. She founded the Zanmi Means Friend Project, a cultural exchange project connecting NYC students & Haitian elementary students, piloted an official Black Lives Matter Art & Activism course for NYC youth titled “I Honor You, collaborated with Meshell Ndegeocello on the “Can I Get a Witness” multimedia performance & installation, and co-founded the Dear America Artivism Fellowship with Shaun Leonardo.
Currently, she is the Educator in Residence for Art & Social Justice at the New Museum, a Harriet’s Apothecary Leadership Circle Member & Healer and an Academy of Teachers Fellow. She can be found advising Universities & art organizations, creating art and advocating for Art Education
